HISTORY
Early
Roots
Joe Boshard immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands after the
First World War in search of adventure and prosperity. In the early
1920’s, as a painter by trade, he started J. Boshard &
Son Ltd., a small painting contractor outfit. Through quality work
and dedicated service, Joe’s business flourished. During his
time, J. Boshard & Son was the largest painting company in Western
Canada. The company did mostly industrial work as it had contracts
to paint many of the ships being built by the bustling Vancouvershipyards.
It also painted the new saw mills, pulp mills, pipe lines, factories,
terminals, and bridges that were being built across the province.
In
the 1943, at the early age of sixteen, W.P. Boshard began working
with his father and older brother in the painting business. W.P.
Boshard or Pete, as most knew him, worked within J. Boshard &
Son Ltd. as an estimator and project manager for over 20 years.
Despite the success, in 1964 Pete decided to carve his own niche
in the world and he left the company to start his own painting contractor
business, Combined Painting Ltd.
Combined
Painting Ltd
In 1964, Pete Boshard and his wife June started Combined Painting
Ltd. Pete successfully developed his company by fostering long lasting
relationships with many of Vancouver's finest general contractors.
Other types of work for the company included bridges for the Alaska
Highway and new government buildings that were being built in the
north. Operating on principles of providing service and quality
finishing, Pete headed the company until his retirement in 1985.
After retirement, Pete handed the company over to his two sons Peter
and Greg who were working with him up until that time. Peter and
Greg worked together until 1991, when Peter left the company to
start a cattle ranch in Kamloops, B.C.
Currently, Greg Boshard is the company president
and operates with the same principles
as the generations before him. Working within the company, are his
sons Tim, Matt and Chris. Combined Painting Ltd continues today to build
valuable relationships with its general contractors and commercial
and industrial clients throughout Western Canada.
